Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

We are Jordan's only Cambridge English Assessment affiliated school which allows us to be pioneers in teacher training programs. Especially, the world-renowned initial teaching certificate Cambridge CELTA. We have been running the CELT A course since 2020 and since then more than 200 teachers have successfully gained their CELTA qualification. This course equips teachers with the needed knowledge and skills to perform at a globally acknowledged standards. During the course, the teachers are mentored by certified tutors for 120 learning hours. After finishing the course, the teachers will be accredited by Cambridge CELTA and will be recognized both locally and internationally as professional English as a second language teachers

FAQs
I do not have a BA in English. Can I take the course?

Yes.
Candidates can have a BA in any field. However, they need to have a C1 CEFR language level and take the admission test and interview before enrolment.
IMPORTANT: This course only focuses on methods of teaching English language, not teaching other subjects in English
 

Is the course certificate accredited?

Yes.
You will receive your certificate from Cambridge University which is one of the biggest language institutes in the world making the certificate recognized a global scale as well as your local Ministry of Education
 

What are the possible grades?

The course does not follow a score system. Instead, it follows a pass or fail system.

  • Fail (10% of worldwide candidates)
  • Pass (70% of worldwide candidates)
  • Pass B (15% of worldwide candidates)
  • Pass A (5% of worldwide candidates)

IMPORTANT NOTE: Grades A and B are never a job requirement. All Jobs around the world require CELTA PASS qualification
 

I am not in Jordan. Can I take the course with IH Amman?

Yes.
Over the years, we have had candidates from all over the world. Just make sure to apply for the online mode
 

What am I going to learn during the course?

The candidates will learn how to teach English as a second language using the communicative approach. This approach aims increase student centeredness and puts lots of emphasis on speaking and employing the language in communication. It steers teachers away from traditional methods like teacher centeredness and heavy focus on grammar tasks. The candidates will learn different frameworks to teach all 4 skills (reading, listening, writing and speaking) and language systems (grammar, vocabulary and functions). 

What does the course look like?

There are 3 possible modes to take the course

  • Part-time online: 3 days a week - 10 weeks – 5 hours a day
  • Full-time: 5 days a week – 5 weeks – 6 Hours a day
  • Hybrid mode: 2 weeks full-time mode – 4 weeks part-time online mode

In all modes, there are 3 main components on the course: Input sessions, teaching practice and written assignments.
 

Is there a test at the end of the course?

No, there isn’t.

There are 3 main areas of assessment in the course:

  1. Teaching practice
    You will have to teach 8 assessed lessons 45 minutes each. Those lessons will be observed by the course tutors and you will be given a grad for each lesson.
  2. Written assignments:
    You will submit 4 assignments that focus on a variety of theoretical aspects of teaching. You will also receive a grad on each.
  3. Attendance of input sessions
    All candidates must attend all session live as they are not recorded even in the online mode. Candidates must engage in discussions, demos and feedback given to them and show willingness to learn and progress

Can the course improve my English language?

No.
All candidates need to be fluent English speakers (C1 CEFR). There is no need for language level proof like IELTS test. However, the candidates will undergo an admission oral interview to check their language level.

Both new and experienced ESL teachers will benefit from the course. The course provides a unique opportunity for practicing teaching and receiving feedback on your performance, observing experienced teachers and engaging in enriching academic discussions.
